Just a short and sweet newsletter this week to share the early results of the Berry Chantilly copycat cake bake off!

You might be familiar with this cake (in my eyes, the best grocery store cake money can buy) if you live near a Whole Foods—and if not, you might be familiar thanks to the minor scandal that erupted last fall. Suffice it to say that people feel very passionate about this cake!

And I think these strong feelings are justified. This is the PERFECT summer cake—a melt-in-your-mouth white cake, a light but full-bodied frosting that’s more substantial than whipped cream but less sweet and heavy than buttercream, and plenty of fresh berries.

As a note: tasters in this bake off rated each cake in terms of which they liked the best as well as which was the most similar to the original Whole Foods cake. In the results below, I’m sharing the ratings for what the tasters liked best OVERALL. (More data to come in the full blog post!) As a second note: I chose to standardize the cake recipes using just blueberries (I wanted to keep the focus on judging the cake/frosting, but it wouldn’t be a Berry Chantilly cake without berries!).

Thank you as always for your support and see you on the blog in a few weeks for the full report!

Here are the results (links to each recipe below):
