There is nothing, and I mean nothing, that hits like a bowl of bran cereal.
And when I say hits, I think you know where I mean. It’s like a cleansing reset! And bran muffins serve a very similar function in addition to being a delicious (to me) baked good.
There’s something really appealing about the grainy, gritty texture that feels like a first cousin to cornbread. There’s also the earthy sweetness from the molasses and brown sugar that screams down-to-earth, kinda healthy kinda humble breakfast treat.
Shout out to the small but vocal minority on Instagram who repeatedly requested these and cheered for them as the final selection for the March bake off! Which is mostly due to my sister and her partner voting for bran muffins over German chocolate cake.
For context, I went to my first ever Tastemaker conference in Chicago (some recs below!) and decided to stop in to visit my sister and her partner in Cincinnati afterwards. Since I was taking over their kitchen, I thought it was only fair that I give them a choice in the bake off. And they chose bran muffins!
So all of this to say: even if you don’t think you like bran muffins, I urge you to open your mind, heart and mouth to try one of these. I whole-heartedly enjoyed every single one.
